New Designers 2011

Aug 08 2011
Recently I attended the New Designers 2011 show in London.

It really is the UK’s most important graduate design exhibition. I went along to the 2nd week, which showcased Furniture, product design, spatial and visual communication.

Of course, the furniture section was my preferred place to loiter, but product design was also an exciting area to wander around.

To see stunning furniture and innovative products created by what will clearly be successful British designers of the future made me feel very proud and extremely excited!

Listed are those that stood out for me. Keep an eye out for their names in the years to come and your wallets handy to snap up uniqueness.

Gregg Parsell

My design show winner!

His pendant light, The Origin, crafted from Glacier White Corian and American Black walnut have such fluidity. And in my mind the ‘show piece’, Revival, is described as a domestic upholstered sofa, reminiscent of 1960’s furniture design. Made from American White oak, Glacier White Corian and upholstered in real leather with contrasting top-stitching. Sadly it was already sold by the time I got to see it, but Greg will most definitely be on my radar.

Yvette Cox

Has an interest in steam bending locally sourced, straight grained Ash, with which she produces beautifully organic pieces. My favorite being the ‘Florence’ coffee table.
