Goodbye Sydney, goodbye Australia

Apr 21 2014
As I write this I am sitting in Sydney airport waiting for my flight home to the UK. I've had the most fantastic time here with so many highlights, but as food is my favorite subject (along wih furniture) I have to give a shout out for the most favorable eating spot discovered on my trip. We got the heads up via Urban Walkabout (www.urbanwlkabout.com) which was essentially our bible! Their guides are broken down into areas. Online or better yet, in a hard copy leaflet, which includes a map, they led us to the best that Sydney and Melbourne had to offer in fashion, designed and lifestyle. The guides are updated regularly and I used them more than my guide book. I highly recommend them, as did my friend Cath, to me.

So, best eating spot, thebookkitchen. Located in Surrey Hills is at the right end of Devonshire Road to make it feel warmly residential. The ambiance is pitched perfectly, with the set up of a cookery bookshop and kitchen, hence the name. I thought it would make a great alternative wedding venue.

The food is beyond exceptional. On my first visit I had the black squid ink risotto and on my second visit, I had the grilled mackerel with potato and fennel salad, this time making it to dessert, I had the apple mille feuille.

Friendly, attentive staff, great ambiance and exceptional well priced food, just ever so slightly off the beaten track, make the effort to seek it out and you'll be rewarded.
